Make Your Own Pastel Paper

Make Your Own Pastel Paper

In this video tutorial of Stayf DRAWS Dutch illustrator Stefan (Stayf) de Groot explains how to make your own pastel paper.
When you work with soft pastels or pastel pencils you always need paper with a tooth to let the pastels stick to your paper. There are different kinds of pastel papers available varying in price. The best pastel paper is sanded pastel board. But this is very expensive. You can make your own sanded pastel paper or board by using Clear Gesso by Liquitex. Apply the Clear Gesso with a fine paint roller and you will get a sanded surface with a nice tooth. If you want a rougher surface use a medium or rough paint roller or a big brush. You can apply the clear Gesso to almost any surface: paper, cardboard, wood, plastic and even metal. The Clear Gesso is transparent, so you can apply it on top of a sketch or an underpainting. It is also a great coat to for working with acrylic paint or oil paint.
You can order Clear Gesso by Liquitex online. Go to Liquitex and find your closest dealer.
